Singapore Healthcare Workforce: The Epic 2030 Opportunities Guide

Singapore’s healthcare workforce is projected to grow by 20%, from 129,000 in 2024 to around 156,000 by 2030, according to the Ministry of Health, that figure describes a system being redesigned, not simply one that needs more people.

A structural shift, not a hiring shortage

Framing this as a healthcare workforce shortage in Singapore misreads it. Care itself is moving. With around one in four citizens projected to be aged 65 and above by 2030, up from 20.7% in 2025, and nursing home capacity scaling from over 20,000 beds in 2025 to 31,000 by 2030, demand is shifting out of acute hospitals and into communities, homes and palliative settings.

The future of healthcare jobs in Singapore

Demand is concentrating in four areas:

– Community and primary care — more than 230 Active Ageing Centres island-wide, with 8 in 10 seniors living near one

Tech-enabled and data health — MOH’s Next Generation Electronic Medical Record, a $1.5bn ten-year programme, reaches SingHealth between late 2026 and 2028

Upskilled allied health — including specialist roles such as Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Palliative Care Nurse Clinicians

Flexible and on-demand care — MOH’s enhanced Home Personal Care (HPC+) opens to eligible seniors from 1 April 2026

Healthcare manpower in Singapore: the employer picture

MOH targets 82,000 nurses, allied health and support care staff by 2030, needing around 6,000 new recruits a year. Public hospitals currently carry more than 900 nursing vacancies. Acute-care pipelines were not built for roles based in homes and neighbourhoods.
